POLO — Jacob Monaco was recently named the February Student of the Month at Polo Community High School and received a scholarship from the Polo Schools Foundation for his efforts. He is the son of Marie and George Monaco.

Monaco ‘s extracurricular activities include football, wrestling, baseball, FFA and FCCLA. After high school, he plans to attend flight school in DuPage to become a pilot.

Upon winning the award, Monaco filled out a list of questions about his school experience.

What class do you find really engaging and why?

A class that I find really engaging is Production Woodworking with Ted Alston, Brock Soltow, Nathaniel Yingling, and I. we have been building chairs to sell, but the reason why I like it so much is because we like to have fun while building the chairs.

What are your career and post-graduation plans?

My career and post-graduation plans are to first go to DisneyLand, of which I got to because I won a bet with my mom, work during the summer, after DisneyLand, to have some money when I go to a flight school in DuPage to become a commercial pilot.

What are your two favorite extracurricular, volunteer or community activities you participate in?

My two favorite extracurricular activities are football and Boy Scouts. What I learned from football is teamwork, hard work pays off, and just because you start off terribly doesn’t mean it will end terribly. Boy Scouts taught me how to be social, survival techniques, leadership, and how to give back to your community.

Please share a moment, group event or activity at school that was meaningful or memorable.

A memorable moment that was meaningful to me was when I finished painting West Side Park for my eagle scout project and seeing everyone that helped out.

What is your hope for the future?

My hope for the future is that we become more accepting as a society and that we become more united as a nation as the founding fathers wanted.
