POLO — Emmalee Gilbert was recently named the January Student of the Month at Polo Community High School and received a scholarship from the Polo Schools Foundation for her efforts. She is the daughter of Nicole and Robert Gilbert.

Gilbert’s extracurricular activities include FCCLA and basketball cheerleading. After high school, she plans to attend college and get a degree in elementary education.

Upon winning the award, Gilbert filled out a list of questions about her school experience.

What class do you find really engaging and why?

Consumers Ed. Ms. Gelander made the class very fun. My favorite part of that class was the budgeting project. I got to look up my future career and based on how much I will make monthly I got to find a house, a car, shop for groceries, and pay bills. I personally really enjoyed this project.

What are your career and post-graduation plans?

After high school I plan to go to Sauk Valley Community College and major in Elementary Education. After two years at Sauk I hope to transfer to Northern Illinois University to continue my education.

What are your two favorite extracurricular, volunteer or community activities you participate in?

Basketball cheer is one of my favorites because I got to meet so many new friends while doing it. Another favorite is picking weeds with Alivia Schmidt at Judy Brodie’s house. This is by far one of my favorites because it was nice to see how grateful she was when we finished.
