Oregon students to showcase business ideas

OREGON – Ever wondered what it would be like to start your own business?

Oregon High School juniors in the Social Entrepreneurship program are doing just that – and the community is invited to come hear their ideas. On Wednesday, Dec. 18, from 7-9 p.m., 12 student enterprises will pitch their business plans and prototypes in an interactive Open House at the Conover Square Community Workspace on Franklin Street.

As a part of the course, each business idea must be based in solving a social or environmental problem. Whether you are a business owner, a community member, or if you’ve ever wanted to start a business of your own, it’s a great opportunity to be inspired by local innovation and initiative.  Students will be seeking feedback on their ideas as well as small-dollar investments to fund their second-semester startups.

Last year, Social Entrepreneurship startups ranged from power-sports, to apparel, to handcrafted wood work, and two student teams took home 1st and 2nd place prizes at the NIU Pitch With A Cause competition in April. This year, you can expect to see a wide variety of ideas and prototypes, and you may even see the next great startup.

This is a free event.
