OREGON – Law enforcement from Ogle County ran through downtown Oregon on Wednesday, June 5 with the Flame of Hope to raise awareness for Special Olympics.

Dan Daub, court security for Ogle County Sheriff’s Department, organized the run. Matt Spurbeck from the Village of Progress ran alongside law enforcement. People from the Village of Progress greeted Matt and law enforcement on the court house lawn, handing out water before they ran the final segment.

Earlier this month, 20 athletes from the Village of Progress (VOP) competed in 32 events. Four athletes from the Village of Progress won gold medals qualifying for the summer games on June 8 and 9 in Bloomington.

The Flame of Hope is handed from community to community until it reaches Bloomington for the opening ceremony.
