Driver makes sure bus has holiday cheer

FORRESTON – Marsha Birkholz, a bus driver for Forrestville Valley has been decorating her front bus seat this holiday season, to add some holiday cheer for her bus riders.

Due to new procedures being in place, and to assist in keeping students and staff safe, the seat directly behind the bus driver is intentionally left empty. Birkholz thought it would be a fun idea to decorate the seat to hopefully bring joy to the students this season as well as promote staying safe and healthy. Birkholz utilized the school’s holiday spirit calendar for decorating ideas and came up with several ideas on her own. Birkholz said she loves seeing the student’s reactions to her decorations and enjoys daily conversations with them.

Superintendent Sheri Smith said staff realize things this school year are very different due to COVID-19 guidelines.

“Mrs. Birkholz has stepped right up to ensure the safety for all students while adding a little holiday cheer to brighten their day,” Smith said.

Smith said she is grateful for all district drivers who safely transport students to and from school each day.

“Our drivers have been willing to step in during the middle of a pandemic and ensure our students get to and from school safely,” she said. “We are incredibly fortunate in Forrestville Valley that we have been open for in-person instruction every day of the first semester.  This credit goes to our staff who go above and beyond each day to ensure safety for all.”
