OREGON– Months of planning and implementation came to fruition this past week with the launch of shoppelocal.biz, an online directory of local businesses in and around the Ogle County region.
Shoppe™ was created by News Media Corporation, the parent company of the Ogle County Life and is designed to help people in the area find and connect with local businesses.
“We acknowledge that there are other directories out there, and that the Internet has hundreds of different ways to find businesses, but Shoppe is just for you,” said Life general manager Mike Feltes. “Shoppe is for your town and your business and we allow people to interact with the businesses that mean most to them and occasionally find one they didn’t know was there.”
Feltes went on to say that the newspaper’s mission is to give local residents a place to find local businesses, but also to promote the site throughout town so visitors to the community use it as well.
“Ultimately our goal is to help local businesses grow,” Feltes said. “More than 12,000 readers visit our local news websites each month, meaning that www.oglecountylife.com is one of the top visited websites in the Ogle County area. Every reader shops for something at some time and when it comes time for them to shop next we want them to know we can help with shoppelocal.biz.”
“Providing visitors with a directory of businesses local to them is what makes us unique,” Feltes said, adding that the Shoppe directory is specially designed to work with smart phones and iPads as well.
“Users on the Shoppe site can locate any business they are looking for right on their smart phone, call them directly with the touch of a button and even walk in to the store with online coupons purchased by the businesses,” Feltes explained.
All local businesses will eventually be featured on the site if they’re not already included, and basic listings are FREE.
Shoppelocal.biz will also offer Enhanced listings and Microsite Web Page options at low monthly fees.
With an Enhanced listing, businesses can upload special offers and coupons for customers to download or share, link social media accounts directly to their listing to connect Shoppe visitors to accounts where they can interact with a business on a social level.
Google Maps are included to help shoppers find a business from a mobile device and e-mail and website links are included, as well as live links that allow the user to call a business right from Shoppe.
The image gallery allows the newspaper to upload up to four images to a gallery that Shoppe visitors can view right from the listing.
“All of our Enhanced listings feature Search Engine Optimization (SEO) to help visitors find your list when searching both within Shoppe and with search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo,” Feltes added.
Shoppe Microsite Web Pages allow users to click through to a custom ad for the individual business. The Microsite listing within Shoppe is the most advanced listing available; rich with features, search engine optimization, and branding to match that of the business.
The Microsite is totally custom made and even makes it easy for visitors to contact a business with an in-page contact form.
“An Enhanced listing on Shoppe coupled with a Microsite Web Page is one of the most affordable ways for small local businesses to have a customized web presence and attract more customers,” Feltes said. “Shoppe is designed for users to find what they are looking for and I invite everyone to log on to shoppelocal.biz today and download the Shoppe icon right to their smart phone so it’s right there when you need it.”
