Redington selected for judgeship

Posted: Friday, Sep 28th, 2012

Michael J. Tardy, Director of the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts, announced Tuesday that the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit judges voted to select John C. Redington as an associate judge of the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit.

Redington received his undergraduate degree in 1987 from Western Illinois University in Macomb, and his Juris Doctor in 1990 from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. He is also a former assistant state’s attorney.

Redington is currently affiliated with the law firm Tess & Redington, Rochelle, which he joined in 1996.

“This kind of opportunity is very humbling in that eight people have the confidence in me to come do this job,” Redington said.

“A position like this brings with it the challenge for me to live up to their confidences.”

According to the Illinois Court system associate judges are appointed by circuit judges, pursuant to supreme court rules, for four-year terms. An associate judge can hear any case, except criminal cases punishable by a prison term of one year or more (felonies).

An associate judge can be specially authorized by the Supreme Court to hear all criminal cases.

“Ultimately, it is my belief at this point, that I will be in Oregon on a regular basis where I will hear traffic, small claims and other such cases,” he added. “I will continue to be a member of the Rochelle community as my family is here. I am confident that the two partners I leave behind [law office] will continue providing the people of Rochelle a great service.”
