THE Ogle County Board will hold a special meeting tonight, Monday, December 3 to swear in all 24 of the newly elected board members. The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m.
Taking office will be 12 incumbents and 12 new members elected to the board on November 6. The entire board was up for election this year due to reappointment.
Federal law requires that population-based district boundaries, from the U.S. Congress to local governing bodies, are redrawn after every census to make sure the representation of citizens remains equal. The law also requires that the population of each district be nearly the same.
Due to the 2010 census the county board will now be divided into 8 districts with 3 members each. Previously the county had 4 districts with 6 members each.
Once sworn in members will vote on a board chairman and vice-chairman. Members will also draw straws to determine 2 or 4 year terms. Half of the board will get 2-year terms, and half will receive 4-year terms. All terms will be 4 years in subsequent elections until reapportionment occurs again before the elections in 2022.
New county board members being sworn Monday are:
District 1: Kimberly T. Kirkolis, D. Richard (Dick) Petrizzo, and Zachary S. Oltmanns, all Republicans.
District 2: Patricia Nordman, William J. Welty and Gerald Jerry Brooks, all Republicans.
District 3: Bobbie Colbert, the lone Democrat on the board and Ashley Simms and Greg Sparrow, both Republicans.
District 4: Bruce W. McKinney, John C. Kenney “Skip”, and John D. O’Brien, all Republicans.
District 5: Martin Typer, Donald E. Griffin Jr., and Richard Daniel Janes, all Republicans.
District 6: Kim P. Gouker, Leroy (Lee) Meyers and Dorothy Bowers, all Republicans.
District 7: Richard Gronewold, John Finfrock and Ron Colson, all Republicans.
District 8: Lyle Hopkins, Patricia E. Saunders and Marcia Heuer, all Republicans.
The county board will hold their first regular meeting on Tuesday, December 18 at 5:30 p.m.
