Monee man dies in plane crash

OGLE COUNTY — Ogle County Sheriff Michael Harn released the name of the man killed in a plane crash Tuesday morning. The vicitim, Thomas Plodzien, 77, of Monee, died in the accident.

On Tuesday June 26 at 7:36 a.m., the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office received a call from Rockford Communication Center of a small plane that had reported a fire on board and did not think the plane could make it to Rockford Airport. The plane was 6 miles east of I-39.

A short time later the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a resident on Crill Road and Perryville Road in Ogle County, indicating of a small plane crash in a cornfield at that location.

Ogle County Sheriff’s Office responded to the location along with the assistance of the Illinois State Police, Rockford and Cherry Valley Fire, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Command Vehicle. Upon the arrival of the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office, it was confirmed that there was a plane crash at the location.

The Ogle County Sheriff’s Office along with the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Transportation Safety Board and the Ogle County Coroner’s Office are continuing the investigation into the crash.

An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday; results have not been released.
