THE Ogle County Sheriff's Department is continuing its investigation in the deaths of two Polo residents on May 31. An autopsy occured on June 2 and results are not yet available.
On May 31, 2012 at 12:08 pm, the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office received a call from an individual driving past 4170 S. Evergreen Road, rural Polo, who observed two persons lying in the yard at the residence, and then called 911.
Deputies responded, along with the Polo Ambulance, and arrived at the location at the same time. It was determined that both individuals were deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.
The Ogle County Sheriff’s began an investigation, and was assisted by the Dixon Police Department, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigators, and the Ogle County Coroner’s Office. A mobile command center was provided by the Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office.
The deceased were identified as Gerald L. Fossler, age 49, and Vickie L. Weegens, age 55, and it was determined that both lived at that address.
Sheriff Michael Harn said that the investigation is continuing, with indications that this is an isolated incident stemming from a domestic problem at the residence, and there are no indications of danger to any other persons.
