OREGON — The Oregon Park District would like to invite the public to the third annual Winter Games Awards Ceremony on Thursday, March 21 at Nash Recreation Center. The ceremony will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m.

The ceremony is a culmination of 10 weeks of competitive games with the Village of Progress. Over the 10-week period the athletes completed in everything from football, soccer, basketball, hockey and even pickleball.

Speaker for the event is Mark Bernard, president, Rockford Ice Hogs hockey operations & general manager. Bernard was named the Chicago Blackhawks vice president, hockey operations/team affiliates on Aug.16, 2018 and enters his 16th season with the organization (2023-24). He came to the Blackhawks organization from the Norfolk Admirals where he served as the team’s vice president and assistant general manager during the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 seasons. In 2006-2007 the Admirals were the AHL affiliates of the Blackhawks.

Prior to his appointment with the Admirals, Bernard was a goaltender for four seasons with the Hampton Roads Admirals (ECHL). In 13 overall professional seasons, Bernard played in 441 games and has the distinction of being just one of three professional goalies (Ron Hextall and Martin Brodeur) to have scored two goals. Bernard also set a professional hockey record when he assisted on four goals on Jan. 30, 1997 while playing for the Bracknell Bees (BISL).

This isn’t Bernard’s first go-round with the IceHogs organization as he was the head coach for the IceHogs during the 2003-04 campaign.

Join the Oregon Park District as we celebrate the athletes on Thursday, March 21 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Nash Recreation Center, Oregon.
