OREGON — Verna E. McIntosh, 84 passed away peacefully at Serenity Hospice on February 7, 2024. Verna's family was by her bedside throughout her time at hospice. She was born in Freeport, IL on December 6, 1939. The daughter of Wilbur and Irene Gerwig. She was Salutatorian of her 1958 graduating class of Forreston High School.
She married James W. Mcintosh at First United Methodist Church of Forreston on June 9, 1962. She worked many years at Rock Valley College as secretary for the counselors, and retired in 1995.
Verna loved living on a farm, roaming the fields with her dog Brownie. She enjoyed spring and fall trips with her husband to Door County, WI. She also loved her cats, gardening, reading, singing and baking for her family and coworkers. She took pleasure in volunteering at Klehm Aboretum.
Survived by her daughters: Kim (Mark) Van Buskirk, Debra McIntosh (Michael Riddle) Four grandchildren: Heather (Kyle) Roberts, Adam Van Buskirk (fiance' Christine Collazo), Taylor Mcintosh, Trevor (Ashley) McIntosh. Six great grandchildren: Carter Roberts, Maxwell Roberts, Leah Roberts, Roman Mcintosh, Aria Mcintosh, Lauren McIntosh.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James and her parents Wilbur and Irene. A private memorial service will be at a future date. Please send memorials to Serenity Hospice.
