Oregon boys bowling falls to Dixon

The Oregon boys bowling team finished its dual match season with a 3,522-3,648 conference loss to Dixon at Town & Country Lanes, Mt Morris on Jan. 11. Oregon was led by Matthew Stahl with a 662 series (244, 208, 210) and was followed by RJ Keene’s 629 series, Aiden Currier’s 581 series, Gavvin Surmo’s 566 series, Brady Davis’ 557 series and Codey Dunbar’s 531 series.  

The JV completed a perfect 15-0 dual match season with a 2,948-2,806 win over Dixon.  The JV was led by Caleb Brooks with a 549 series.  Also competing at the JV2 level Landon Bailey had the high score with a 531 series.

The Hawks varsity finished their regular season with a 14-3 record, two tournament championships and will compete in the IHSA Regional on Monday, Jan. 15 in Freeport in one of the toughest regionals in the state.

Stillman Valley girls basketball defeats Winnebago

The Stillman Valley varsity boys basketball team scored a 65-45 win over Winnebago on Tuesday, Jan. 16. The Cardinals improved to 18-4 overall and 3-1 in the Big Northern with the victory. Taylor Davidson led Stillman Valley with 25 points, while Mya Janssen added 19 points and Amelia Dunseth finished with eight points. Davidson scored 15 points in the first half.

Oregon boys bowling ends season at regional

The Oregon boys bowling team ended its season at the IHSA Regional on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 4 Season in Freeport. In a day that started with a lane breakdown after one frame, the Hawks never found a groove and ended the day in ninth place. Oregon was led by junior Matthew Stahl with an 1,167 series (184, 213, 220, 172, 207, 171), who missed advancing to the Sectional by two pins.  Also making a run at advancing was junior Gavvin Surmo with an 1,134 series, including a 246 in game five, but fell 35 pins short of advancing. Senior Codey Dunbar had a 1,033 series, senior Brady Davis had a 1,029 series, sophomore Aiden Currier had a 369 series (two games), sophomore RJ Keen had a 304 series, junior Caleb Brooks had a 177 game and sophomore Caleb Ehrler had a 137 game.
