MT. MORRIS — Margie L. Stouffer, age 97, passed away Friday January 5, 2024 at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon, IL. surrounded by her family after a short illness. Margie was born March 15, 1926 in Springfield, Ohio to Robert Kirkham & Hilda (Kirkham) Winget. Margie grew up in Springfield, Ohio and after college moved to Ashton, IL with her parents while her Stepfather Rev. Eldon Winget pursued ministry.  After moving to Ashton, she started her teaching career in a one room country school teaching grades 1-8 for one year. She then moved to Mt. Morris to teach 1stand 2ndgrade where she met Sherwood “Woody” Stouffer. Margie and Sherwood were married June 4, 1950 in Ashton, IL and spent 64 wonderful years together. Grandma Margie was always curious and entertained with what the grandchildren and great grandchildren were doing. She was always sitting on the floor or sitting at the table to play games or color pictures. She very much enjoyed time with “the little people”.  Through the years Margie enjoyed her hobbies as a girl scout leader, gardening, bird watching and craft making. Margie also enjoyed attending plays and musicals. She always had a thirst for knowledge and continued taking classes at Highland in Freeport, IL for several years.  She enjoyed hosting and cooking meals for family and friends. She was a devoted member and Sunday school teacher of Trinity Lutheran Church of Mt. Morris.

Margie is survived by son: Brian (Wanda) Stouffer, Kinnear, WY; daughter: Gayle Madsen, Wellsville, MO; 9 Grandchildren, and 18 Great Grandchildren; sister, Jean Ann Buckwell, Toledo, Ohio and many nieces and nephews. Margie is preceded by Parents; Father, Robert Kirkham, Mother, Hilda Winget and Stepfather, Rev. Eldon Winget, Husband; Sherwood Stouffer, Brother; Rodger Winget, Brother and Sister In-law; Norm and Virginia Nelson, Son In law; Larry Madsen.

A viewing will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024 at 10:00am until service time in Trinity Lutheran Church, Mt. Morris, IL. Funeral service will be held on Friday January 12, 2024 at 11:00am, with Pastor Josh Ehrler officiating followed by a luncheon. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Mt. Morris, IL.
