Charles (Chuck) E. Hays

FREEPORT — Charles (Chuck) E. Hays, 70, of Freeport, passed away unexpectedly, at SSM Health Center in Monroe, Wisconsin, Saturday January 6, 2024, after a cardiac arrest. He was born to Herbert and Avis (Trump) Hays on September 10, 1953, in Dixon, Illinois. He attended Polo Schools until 1966 when the family moved to Shannon. The family then moved to Freeport in 1969 where Chuck graduated from Freeport High in 1972. He was employed by Kelly Springfield Tire, drove semi trucks for Shannon Truck Lines, Art Pape in Iowa, a draftsman at Buffalo Woodworking in Polo, and 40 years at Bocker Chevrolet in Freeport.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Alicia (Feary) Hays; sons, Joshua (Trisha) Hays and their sons Charles and Timothy, Wyatt (Tracy) Hays and their daughter Avelene and new grandson due in March; and daughter, Sarah (Jeremy) Welt. Also survived by brother, William (Marcy) Hays of Naperville; sister, Nancy (Randy) Ocken of Polo; brother-in-law, Lon Feary; several nieces and several great-nieces and nephews.

Chuck was preceded in death by his oldest son Bryant Hays, his parents, and in-laws, Ron and Lila Feary.

Funeral services were 1:30 pm Sunday January 14, 2024 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home. Pastor Don Jamerson will officiate. Visitation noon until the time of service. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service. Charles also requested to be a tissue and bone donor. He will continue to do good work for others.
