Willie (Dillow) Poggioli

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – Willie (Dillow) Poggioli died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017, in Mount Pleasant, S.C., surrounded by her loving family. Willie was born Jan. 21, 1933 in Chunkey County Tennessee. She was one of seven children born to RosaLee and Walter K. Dillow.

She graduated in 1950 from Byron High School. Willie was the beloved wife of Al Poggioli (deceased) living most of their life in Rockford until Al retired from Bowl-Mor Lanes and they moved to Byron. Willie was a former member of St. Edwards Catholic Church in Rockford and St. Mary Catholic Church, Byron. For all of her life, Willie was an avid Chicago Cubs fan being a charter member of the Die Hard Cubs Fan Club, and in the 1940’s played for the Bitner Bakery Softball team. Willie loved creating beautiful stained-glass windows, wood carvings, and stitching her beautiful hand-made quilts. Her lovely backyard gardens of flowers were appreciated by all.

Willie was devoted mother to daughter, Lynne (Pierluigi Servadei) Poggioli of Mount Pleasant, S.C., and son Marc (Nancy Ehmann) Poggioli of Winnetka. She is survived by her grandchildren, Marcus and Lyall Plumb, Peter, Annie and Mary Poggioli and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by brothers Cecil, Ray, Ted Dillow and twin sister Wando Mullen. She is survived by brother Ben and Bobby Dillow. 

Christian Funeral Mass was 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Byron with the Rev. Howard Barch officiating.  Visitation was from 9:30-10:30 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017 at the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 506 W. Merchant Street, Byron. Burial followed the Funeral Mass at the Calvary Cemetery near Rockford.  A memorial fund is established in Willie’ name for the Alzheimer’s Association. Visit www.farrellhollandgale.com.
