STILLMAN VALLEY – Wesley Herbert Young, age 89, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2017 at the Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon. He was born Oct. 26, 1928 in Rockford the son of F. Herbert and Alice D. (Lenstrom) Young. 

Wes attended the Mouth of Stillman Grade School through the 6th grade, then Jr. High at the Kishwaukee Consolidated School for his 7th and 8th grade years, after that he attended Stillman Valley High School. He married Devola Wayman on Oct. 7, 1949. She preceded him in death.  He married Jane Nelson on April 22, 1989. She also preceded him in death. He married Marie (Baker) Baxter on Oct. 16, 2010 at the New Milford United Methodist Church. Wes owned and operated Wesley Young Quarry Products during the 1960’s. He retired after 17 years of working in the maintenance department for the Chicago-Rockford International Airport. He was baptized at and was a member of the Kishwaukee Community Evangelical Presbyterian Church. He loved to work with his hands and would build birdhouses and feed the birds. He was a naturalist and fisherman who loved to fish every year with his 2 sons in Boulder Junction. Wes also liked camping, building campfires, and playing cards. 

He was predeceased by his parents, 2 wives, brother and sister-in-law Ronald and Darlene Young, and stepson Michael Magunson. 

He is survived by his wife Marie of Stillman Valley, sons: Gary (Trudy) Young of Stillman Valley, and Steven (Mary) Young of Madison, Wis., stepson Rod (Laura) Magnuson, sister Dorothy (Earl) Gocken of Stillman Valley, 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson, 3 step grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 8, 2017 at the Kishwaukee Community Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 8195 Kishwaukee Road, Stillman Valley, IL 61084 with the Rev. Eric Tonjes of the church and Rev. Casey Fiut pastor of the New Milford United Methodist Church Co-officiating. Visitation was prior to the service at the church from 9-11 a.m. Private burial will be at the Kishwaukee Cemetery.
