OREGON – Rogene E. "Jean" Johnston, 83, of Oregon died Monday, March 19, 2018 in Generations at Neighbors, Byron. Born April 6, 1934 in Marion Township, Ogle County, the daughter of Daniel and Anna (Bulthaus) Rieken.

Married to Richard Johnston Sept. 11, 1954 in Ebenezer Reformed Church, Oregon. Jean was a 1952 graduate of Oregon High School and was employed for many years as a cook for the Oregon School System and at the Ogle County Jail. Mainly though, Jean was a committed homemaker and committed to her family. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Oregon where she also taught Sunday School.

Survived by her husband, Richard "Dick" Johnston of Oregon; sons: Pete (Mary Jo) Jacobs of North Barrington, Scott Jacobs of Nacogdoches, Texas, Jerry (Beth) Johnston of Byron and Thomas (Julie) Johnston of Chana; daughter, Terri (Tom Lykkebak) Johnston of Winnebago; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: her parents; son, Dick Johnston; twin brother, Richard Rieken; and sister, Marion Ehnen.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, March 23 in the First Baptist Church of Oregon with Pastor Jared Cochran officiating. Burial in Ebenezer Cemetery, rural Oregon. Visitation Thursday 5-8 p.m. in the church. Memorials in Jean's name may be made to the First Baptist Church of Oregon. Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Oregon assisted the family with arrangements.
