CHANA – Robert Eugene Sanders, 76, of Chana, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2017 in Serenity Hospice Home, Oregon. He was born Jan. 10, 1941 in Jefferson County, the son of Newell and Martha Marie (Mattox) Sanders.
He married Wilma Dean Wendt in Morrison on May 30, 2003. Robert worked at Anaconda Wire & Cable in Sycamore for 35 years and has been self-employed since 1990. He bought and sold cement lawn ornaments and also crafted and sold wooden windmills and wishing wells. Bob was an Army veteran and a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma; children, Denise Grimm and Darren (Ann) Sanders, both of Genoa; step-children, Eric (Crystal) Vondergathen of Rochelle, Stacy (John) Fredrick of Morrison, and Lynn (Casey) Wessels of Sterling; 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; sisters, Esther Edwards, Mary Capps and Mildred (Robert) Rapp; brothers, Melvin (Dessie), Dwight (Rena), Charles (Sue), and Glen (Margie); and sisters-in-law, Barbara and Vicki.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Floyd Earl, Marvin, and Roy.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017 at noon, preceded by visitation beginning at 10 a.m., in the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 110 S. 7th St., Oregon. Memorials may be directed to the family.
