MOUNT MORRIS – Lois J. Horst, age 98, a lifelong Leaf River and Mount Morris area resident went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, Jan 11, 2018. She was born Dec. 15, 1919 near Leaf River, the daughter of Clifford and Gussie (Schelling) Lovell.
Lois graduated from Leaf River High School in 1937. She married Merville Horst on May 24, 1938. Lois worked as a CNA at Pinecrest Manor for 15 years. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mt. Morris where she was part of the Lutheran Church Women and was also formerly the accompanist for the Jr. Choir.
She was also a member of the helping Hands Club. She was formerly the organist for the St. James Lutheran Church of Forreston. Her family including her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren were the most important part of her life.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband Merville, 3 brothers: Leonard, Maurice, and Kenneth Lovell, 2 son-in-laws: Donald Johnson and Burt Coplien.
She is survived by her 5 children: Barbara Johnson (Lyle Freeze) of Leaf River, Joanne Coplien of Brodhead, Wis., Berniece (Tom) Reed of San Antonio, Texas, Robert (Barbara) Horst of Austin, Texas, and William (Connie) Horst of Mount Morris; 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 25 great-great-grandchildren and 3 more on the way, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mount Morris, with the Pastor Josh Ehrler and Pastor Myron Bartell Co-officiating. Burial will be in the West Grove Cemetery near Forreston, Visitation was Friday evening Jan. 19, 2018 from 5-7 p.m. at the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home in Oregon.
