James Wellington Cratty

OREGON – James Wellington Cratty passed away on Jan. 18, 2018 at the age of 89. James was born on July 7, 1928 in Mount Morris to Jay J. Cratty and Olivia (Carney).

After two years of schooling, he served in the U.S. army during the Korean War. There he was awarded the Silver Star in 1951 for his courageous actions.

James worked for the Ogle County Sheriff’s Department in Oregon, where he retired in 1992.

James had a love of cars which included his 1914 Model T Ford, his 1979 Pontiac Firebird, and his 1967 Buick Skylark. He had a love of trains and even had a set up in his garage. He loved to build doll houses and coffee grinders made out of wood. He had so many hobbies. You could always find him puttering in the garage working on something. He enjoyed the company of his five dogs, especially Jigs. He also was a member of the VFW/American Legion/Warroad Eagles Club and the Northland Cruisers.

He is survived by his wife Myrna Cratty of Warroad; children include, James P. Cratty (JC) of Warroad and Tracy Bolen-Cratty of Mount Morris; grandchildren include, Jamie, Tyler, Nicholas, Tiffany, and Cheyenne; and great-grandchildren include, Jaxson, Carson, Austin, and Olivia.

He was proceeded in death by his parents.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. at the Warroad Baptist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior. Military honors by the Warroad American Legion/VFW.
