BYRON – Mitch Kushner, an arson investigator and K-9 handler with the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshall, was the featured speaker at the recent Byron Women’s Club meeting.
Kushner has been a K-9 handler since 1992. Zoe is Mitch’s current partner. They work the Northeast section if Illinois but Mitch is licensed to work the entire state of Illinois.
Kushner and his partner are called upon to investigate fires to determine first the origin of the fire to find where it started. Kushner outlined the extensive training necessary to prepare

the K-9 dogs for service.

This meeting was one of two potluck luncheons the club schedules during its nine -month season. This was a soup-and salad luncheon prepared by the members. Dessert was a black and white Dalmatian sugar cookie made by hostesses Nancy Tracy and Karen Sikorski.

The next luncheon meeting will be Tuesday, April 10 at noon at the Jarrett Forrest Preserve. Jeff Ludwig, president of the State-line Beekeepers Association, will share with us not only why bees are so important but also their care and honey extraction.

Don’t miss this opportunity to see the new wraparound deck at the Forest Preserve and lunch catered by Areo2 while learning all about bees.

Please-call Jennifer Peterson BWC president at 815-234.-2937 for information or reservations.
